The bus will pick us up at the drop-off location at
3pm. We will have 2 hours to explore the
Fun Zone, peninsula, and island area-have lunch, walk on the pier, or relax on
the beach.
The Balboa Fun Zone is one of Southern
California’s oldest and last great coastal amusement areas and a popular
family-friendly attraction for visitors to Newport Beach. Visitors can enjoy rides
on the waterfront Ferris wheel, play games in the arcade or tour the nautical
museum while enjoying their favorite beach treats at the harbor.
A short walk down Main Street from the Fun Zone: Locals know the three-mile-long stretch with
the harbor on one side and broad, sandy
California beaches on the other as The
Peninsula. The Balboa Peninsula features shops, bars, restaurants, the
original Ruby’s Diner on the pier, bike rentals, and a view of the shoreline,
surfers, and sunbathers spanning for miles.
Located in the Fun Zone is the Balboa Island Ferry. The Ferry will take you across the harbor (on a barge) to Balboa Island ($1 each way). Balboa Island’s Marine Avenue is home to chic coastal shops and restaurants. There may be nothing more iconic than Balboa Island’s two famous desserts (also available at the Fun Zone), the Balboa Bar and Frozen Banana. The local sweet-tooth treasures have been mainstays for nearly 75 years, and have been imitated and replicated, including on the hit TV show “Arrested Development.”
